Community Building Partners is pleased to announce the hiring of our newest team member, Sheldon Johnson. Sheldon, who will be the new vice president for community development at Community Building Partners, loves neighborhoods, vibrant public spaces, and believes that strengthening third places is a key ingredient for building a sense of community and the people power necessary for social and political change. He approaches this work with a lens of racial equity and addressing the social determinants of health.
“In my view, working in community development is about two primary things,” he says. “First, it’s about building relationships with people, and second, it’s about celebrating the places where these people live, work, and play. I’m excited to join the Community Building Partners team to do the important work of supporting local initiatives to develop innovative affordable housing solutions.”
A Columbus native, Sheldon was previously the managing director for Community Development for All people, a faith-based community development corporation focusing on the residents on the South Side of Columbus. Sheldon holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, a master degree in public policy from Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy, and a master’s degree in divinity from Duke Divinity School.
