Meet the new powerhouse battling social injustice

The newest social justice hub, Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society, is now online.

Born of a belief that we all benefit from a fair and inclusive society, the Haas Institute furthers both research and policy while building relationships and facilitate communication between community partners, academics, and policymakers.

The Haas Institute calls the University of California, Berkeley home, but its impact is far-reaching. Areas of research include:

  • Diversity and Democracy
  • Diversity and Health Disparities
  • Economic Disparities
  • LGBTQ Citizenship
  • Race, Diversity, and Educational Policy
  • Reconfiguring the Landscapes of Disability

Haas InstituteIn addition to its site launch, the Haas Institute is also celebrating a book launch.

Executive Director john a. powell recently published Racing to Justice (Indiana University Press), a collection of essays that examine identity and inclusion.

Deepak Bhargava, of the Center for Community Change, has praised powell’s work, saying, “john a. powell is among the most original and important thinkers writing about politics, race and social change in America. He is a genuine genius whose work has been indispensable to thousands of activists and scholars. Finally, his critical work is gathered together in one place.”
