A new team is taking up leadership at Stratford East Senior Apartments in Columbus. At this year’s annual resident council election, new and long-time residents campaigned for executive board seats.
Stratford East experienced a surge in new residents this year, who brought big ambitions and new ideas to the council.
Evelyn Valentin will lead the council as the new president, taking the place of Mary Williams. Williams has served six terms as President of the resident council. Having reached her term limit, Williams will now serve as Vice President. Long-serving secretary Marian Croskey will continue her role, while newcomer Sue Bush won the race for treasurer.
The resident council meets once a month to plan activities and hear ideas for improvements to the building and community. The executive board serves as a bridge between management and the residents.
Greneisha Harper, Interim Property Manager, oversaw the election. She says she is proud to be part of the process because, “a resident council committee gives tenants a collective voice, and it builds community between the residents.”
Any resident can be a part of the council by paying monthly dues and participating in the meetings. Along with social activities, the executive board also manages the mobile market from the Mid-Ohio Food Bank every third Wednesday. They set up the display of produce and grocery items for their fellow residents to shop from. Their leadership and engagement ensures a vibrant and supportive community for all of our residents.
The next two big events planned by the residents council are Thanksgiving family dinner, and the OSU-Michigan football watch party coming up later in November. Residents interested in getting involved can talk to the new executive board, or to other council members.
Accord management takes pride in its history of community building at each of our properties and are always excited to see our residents come together to share their vision for their home. We congratulate the new executive board on their election!
